Fomesafen 250 g/L SL Herbicide

  • Overview
  • Recommended Products
1.This product is a 250 g/L fomesafen soluble concentrate (SL), belonging to the diphenyl ether class of selective contact herbicides. Fomesafen acts by inhibiting protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO), a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of chlorophyll and heme. This inhibition leads to the accumulation of protoporphyrin IX, which, in the presence of light, generates reactive oxygen species that rapidly destroy cell membranes, resulting in desiccation and necrosis of treated foliage.

2.It is specifically developed for post‑emergence weed control in soybeans, peanuts, beans, and peas, effectively controlling a broad spectrum of annual broad‑leaved weeds, including those resistant to other herbicide classes. It is also used for directed spray applications in orchards and non‑crop areas. Always apply according to the recommended rates within the registered and approved areas.

Key Functions

Fomesafen is a selective, contact herbicide with limited systemic translocation. It is absorbed primarily by the foliage and, to a lesser extent, by roots. The active ingredient inhibits protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO), a critical enzyme in the porphyrin pathway. This inhibition causes the accumulation of protoporphyrin IX, a potent photosensitizer, in the chloroplasts of treated plants. Under sunlight, protoporphyrin IX generates singlet oxygen and other highly reactive oxygen species, which rapidly oxidize membrane lipids, leading to irreversible membrane damage, electrolyte leakage, chlorophyll degradation, and cellular collapse. Visible symptoms—chlorotic and necrotic spots—appear within 2–4 days after application, with complete desiccation of sensitive weeds occurring within 7–10 days. Because of its mode of action, fomesafen is effective against many broad‑leaved weeds that have developed resistance to ALS‑ and ACCase‑inhibiting herbicides. The SL formulation ensures rapid leaf uptake and excellent rainfastness within 2 hours of application.

Key Benefits

1.Highly effective against a wide spectrum of annual broad‑leaved weeds in soybeans, peanuts, beans and peas—including Amaranthus retroflexus, Chenopodium album, Abutilon theophrasti, Xanthium sibiricum, Portulaca oleracea, Polygonum spp., Stellaria media, and Solanum nigrum.
2.Excellent crop safety for soybeans and peanuts when applied at recommended rates and growth stages; does not cause significant crop injury or yield reduction under normal use conditions.
3.An ideal tool for resistance management—works via a unique PPO‑inhibiting mode of action (HRAC Group E / WSSA Group 14), making it an effective alternative for controlling broad‑leaved weeds that are resistant to ALS inhibitors, ACCase inhibitors, and triazines.
4.Fast action under good growing conditions—visible control within 2–4 days and complete weed death within 7–10 days, providing rapid canopy clearance and reducing weed competition.
5.Soluble concentrate (SL) formulation is water‑soluble, dust‑free, easy to pour and measure, with excellent tank‑mix compatibility, allowing flexible co‑application with other herbicides for enhanced weed control.
6.Low soil persistence with no significant carry‑over damage to rotational crops (wheat, corn, barley) when used at recommended rates and under appropriate soil conditions.

●The actual applicable crops and control spectrum shall strictly comply with the provisions of the locally registered label.
●The actual use instructions, crop range, diseases, application rates, and conditions of use are subject to the label.
●Do not apply to crops or diseases not specified on the local label.
