Cymoxanil 30% + Famoxadone 22.5% WDG fungicide

  • Overview
  • Recommended Products
This product is a 30% cymoxanil + 22.5% famoxadone water-dispersible granule (WDG) formulation, belonging to a combined contact and local systemic fungicide. Famoxadone is an oxazolidinedione QoI fungicide (FRAC Group 11) that inhibits mitochondrial electron transport at the cytochrome bc₁ complex (Complex III), blocking ATP synthesis and causing fungal death. Cymoxanil is a cyanoacetamide-oxime fungicide (FRAC Group 27) that primarily affects the biosynthesis of fungal lipids and cell membrane function, inhibiting spore germination, germ tube elongation, appressorium formation, and mycelial growth. The combination provides both protective and curative (therapeutic) action against oomycete diseases.
Suitable for various crops such as cucumber, grape, potato, tomato, pepper, tobacco, watermelon, melon, lettuce, celery, asparagus, and hops. It is used to control a wide range of oomycete diseases including downy mildew, late blight, black shank, phytophthora blight, and other devastating diseases. Please use according to the recommended dosage within the registered and approved areas.

Key Functions
Famoxadone is a synthetic oxazolidinedione fungicide belonging to the QoI (Quinone outside Inhibitor) class, FRAC Group 11. It was developed by DuPont and first registered in France in 1998. Famoxadone is a potent inhibitor of mitochondrial electron transport, specifically inhibiting the function of the enzyme ubiquinol:cytochrome c oxidoreductase (cytochrome bc₁complex, Complex III) at the Qo site. By blocking electron transfer from ubiquinol to cytochrome c₁, famoxadone disrupts the mitochondrial electron transport chain, causing oxidative phosphorylation to cease and preventing ATP synthesis. Without ATP, the fungal pathogen cannot maintain essential metabolic processes — spore germination is inhibited, mycelial growth ceases, and spore production is blocked, ultimately leading to fungal death. Famoxadone has strong lipophilic properties, allowing it to adhere firmly to the waxy plant surface and resist wash-off by rain. It provides excellent protective activity with long-lasting residual effect, and is particularly effective during the early stages of disease development. Famoxadone also exhibits good rainfastness — it is not affected by rain starting 2 hours after application, so there is no need to repeat application if rain occurs after this period.
Cymoxanil is a cyanoacetamide-oxime fungicide belonging to FRAC Group 27. It was developed by DuPont and first commercialized in 1977. Cymoxanil acts primarily on the biosynthesis of fungal lipids and cell membrane function. It inhibits spore germination, germ tube elongation, appressorium formation, and mycelial growth, effectively blocking the early stages of fungal infection and disease development. Unlike famoxadone, cymoxanil has local systemic activity — it is absorbed by plant tissues and moves short distances within the plant from the point of contact, providing local systemic protection and curative action against pathogens that have already begun to penetrate plant tissues. Cymoxanil has both protective and curative (therapeutic) properties. However, it has a relatively short residual activity period when used alone, which is why it is typically combined with a protective partner fungicide such as famoxadone. Cymoxanil is classified by FRAC as a low-to-medium risk fungicide for resistance development.
Key BenefitsKey Benefits
1. Dual mode of action — protective + curative: Combines the potent mitochondrial respiration inhibition of famoxadone (FRAC Group 11, QoI) with the lipid biosynthesis inhibition and local systemic activity of cymoxanil (FRAC Group 27), providing both preventive protection on the plant surface and curative action against pathogens that have already penetrated plant tissues.
2. Broad-spectrum control of oomycete diseases: Highly effective against a wide range of oomycete pathogens including Phytophthora, Plasmopara, Pseudoperonospora, and Peronophythora species, controlling downy mildew, late blight, black shank, phytophthora blight, and other devastating diseases. It is also effective against other fungal diseases such as grape brown rot, grape leaf spot, and tomato ring spot.
3. Wide range of application: Suitable for cucumber, grape, potato, tomato, pepper, tobacco, watermelon, melon, lettuce, celery, asparagus, hops, and many other agricultural and horticultural crops.
4. Unique dual FRAC group combination — Group 11 + Group 27: Combines two distinct modes of action for robust resistance management. The inclusion of cymoxanil (FRAC Group 27, low-to-medium resistance risk) alongside famoxadone (FRAC Group 11, high resistance risk) effectively delays the development of resistance to the QoI component, making this combination ideal for Fungicide Resistance Management (FRM) programs.
5. Rapid curative activity: Cymoxanil provides local systemic curative action, stopping disease development within 2-3 days in vineyards and 1-2 days in cucumber after pathogen entry, allowing flexible application timing in disease management programs.
6. Excellent rainfastness and residual activity: Famoxadone's strong lipophilic properties ensure firm adhesion to the waxy plant surface, providing excellent rainfastness and long-lasting residual protection. The product is not affected by rain starting 2 hours after application, making it suitable for use during the rainy season.
7. No visible residue on treated crops: The product leaves no obvious visible spots or residue on leaves and fruits, ensuring marketable crop quality and appearance.
8. Water-dispersible granule (WDG) formulation: Disperses readily in water without dust problems associated with wettable powders, easy to measure and mix, with good stability, storage safety, and user convenience. Suitable for conventional foliar spray application.
9. Compatible with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs: When used in rotation with fungicides from different FRAC groups and as part of an integrated disease management strategy, this product provides a reliable tool for sustainable crop protection. It should not be used as the only disease-management tool throughout the season.
